Ubiquitous City

For this project I was asked to create a pod cast investigating current emerging technologies within digital media. I choose to focus on interactive multi media screens.  Microsoft is leading the way in these technologies with there state of the art Microsoft surfaces. These interactive screens give the user the freedom to use different medias in ways that have never been used before, they make viewing pictures, watching videos, listening to music and browsing the internet a socially interactive experience.

Users can interact with the machine by touching or dragging there fingers or objects across the screen. These machines have already been used in some top London restaurants and clubs. Sit at your table order your food and drinks of the interactive menu, then spit and settle the bill by placing your credit card on the table.

There are many ways in which this technology can branch out in to other areas of our lives. There is a large interest in group usage. Bringing people together to interact with games, pictures and films. I can see some time in the future interactive tables used in casinos with interactive cards and chips, slide dealt from the dealer, with no mess and no cheating.  Sitting in a mall in a cafe buying cloths, ordering your food and booking cinema tickets all within a slid of the finger. We now have the technology to use screen like never before, we have the freedom to use them in anyway we want. Screens that interact with our moods or personalities. screens that move over objects or fill an entire room. Pictures, television, music which could be dropped and dragged from a small hand held device to huge wall screens with a swipe of the hand.

Imagine watching TV on your small screen, then your friends come round to watch a film. With a swipe of your hand drop and drag the film on to the wall screen, customize the size of the display with your fingers like an ipod.  Then when your finished you can relax to the full wall showing a sequence of color portraying your mood or a tranquil waterfall.

Why do we have to be limited to viewing things on a flat surface, there is the capacity to view and interact with a screen seen over a round shape of collection of items. I there is also development in projections, there in now development in the technologies to project on to a non flat surface and through 3d mapping converting the picture in to a perfectly flat surface.  Where I see this technology going in the near future is holographic projection. Interactive holographic which can be used in many different ways of life. I see this technology being used in maps with mountain and buildings coming out from the screens. Gaming, walking around in a 3d world. Military, training in a 3d battle front. There are a lot of uses for this type of technologies in a connected Ubiquitous City. With the concept of 3d projections, I think this technology can only grow.

Making the video itself went well and i didn't have to much trouble with it. the only thing that i found hard was little things like needing to take tutorials to find out how to use certain effects and applications. also if i was to do the project again i would like to put a sound track over it and rhythm edit the footage for a more professional outcome.

Having finished my animation i think that i have managed to accomp
lish what was outlined in the brief, over all i think the project went well but there are mistakes that i would change when using this program agin in the future, one of which was not planning the export settings when starting my project doing the whole pr
oject in 12 frames per second rather that 25. when brought in to final cut the footage was jumpy and didn't consistently flow. To solve this i sped up the footage. This could have ruined the video but i ended up liking the new fast pace sequence which i think suits the style of animation and its content anyway. the image shown is of a print screen, showing the development of the layers of sound which i gathered. i then rhythm edited the sounds to the footage, (electrical spark sounds, to the part with the broken
 hand) etc...

i think that this video will appeal to the audience who would be viewing this on the marvel website as it relates to the content of the site and brings a comedic value to the page.

Animation

There are many types of animation techniques. I am mainly interested in modern cartoon animation such as that seen in The Simpsons and Family guy. The technique used in these is computer animation using toon boom and and in earlier examples Adobe flash.
South park was created using cut out animation,
through a rosterum setup. The procedure is extremely
time consuming but this detail gives it the individuality
with makes it stand out from the rest.

Further information on interactive multi media screens.

Possible development and thinking for the future.

Further exploring in to interactive surfaces

This video shows how they can be used in a restaurant or club.

Interesting posts, Digital Cultures and Technologies

Ubiquity's

For my Digital Cultures and Technologies unit, i was asked to investigate currently emerging technologies, within digital media. We were asked to look at technologies within ubiquitous informative technologies. this is when information systems are linked, through many different ways, such as wireless networking or RFID tags, so on....

I decided to focus on interactive multi-media touch screen systems. There have been major advances in the way we use this type of technologies, one of the newest ideas to be cultivated are interactive tabletops. leading out front in this technology is Microsoft's product 'Microsoft surface'. Users can interact with the machine by touching or dragging there fingers or objects across the screen. These machines have already been used in some top london restaurants and clubs.

animatic of storyboard.

this is a short animatic made from a storyboard my Uni partner and i did for a project were doing. Are brief was to make an instructional video, we decided to aim ares around making hotdogs. The animatic has brought to light a few problems which were going to have to work around and over come. One of the main problems was that neither of us wanted to be on camera, but the shots that we wanted meant that some one would have to be, to solve this we could either get some one to act for us, or just do it our selves. The problem with this is that neither of us are actors and i don't know any. this would bring the whole video down if acted poorly. There are also some health and safety things which will have to be assessed...

This is a poster i did which is meant to represent me. As I'm not getting graded on this i haven't put a whole lot of effort in, and don't really like the outcome. what i was trying to portray was that i have two sides to me, one is a total country farmer boy, who loves land rovers, motor bikes and partying, The other is a film geek who loves computers 3D modeling and films....
